Micah 5:2
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
Isaiah 7:14
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”
This Sunday, 30th December 2025, is the first Sunday of Advent and traditionally a candle is lit, often called the Prophecy candle, representing ‘Hope’. This is because of the hope given by the prophets of God sending The Messiah to rescue the people of Israel. Little did they know that their Messiah was Jesus and He would come to rescue the world from sin by His death on the cross and giving eternal life through His resurrection from the dead. “…the Father has sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world.” (1 John 4:14)
We also have the certain hope that the Lord Jesus Christ will return one day and … ” we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord for ever.” (1 Thessalonians 4:17) Prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus coming the first time so there is no reason to doubt He will come again. Do you believe it?
